In early 2019, the visionary artist Lita Albuquerque approached me with an invitation to collaborate on a bold new project—her film Liquid Light. She handed me over 20 hours of breathtaking footage shot in the otherworldly landscapes of Bolivia, along with a single evocative sentence to guide the narrative: “A 25th century female astronaut has come to Earth to bring the language of light, humans reject her, and she leaves the planet dejected.”
Over the next six months, I immersed myself in Lita’s expansive body of work and meticulously combed through the footage. From this material, I crafted a five-chapter, 27-minute film that follows our ethereal protagonist on an emotional journey of illumination, failure, and eventual transcendence.
Liquid Light premiered at the 59th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia—Biennale Arte 2022, presented by bardoLA.
Once the film was complete, I led the design of all promotional materials, the exhibition layout, and the film’s presentation as an immersive installation. I transformed the piece into a monumental triptych spanning 36 feet in width and 12.5 feet in height—an expansive visual experience meant to engulf viewers in both the imagery and the mythology of Lita’s world.
We spent a month in Venice bringing the installation to life. The experience—part production, part pilgrimage—was nothing short of magical.
In April 2025, we brought Liquid Light to MuseoMaxxi in Rome, featured in Something in the Water -continuing its journey across borders and minds.
