Liquid Light
In the early months of 2019, the illuminating artist, Lita Albuquerque, approached me about collaborating on a new project- her film “Liquid Light.” She handed over 20+ hours of footage that was shot in Bolivia and shared one descriptive sentence for the narrative: “A 25th century female astronaut has come to Earth to bring the language of light, humans reject her, and she leaves the planet dejected.” For the next 6 months I studied Lita’s work and scoured over the footage and edited a 5 chapter, 27 minute film that follows our hero through an emotional journey of light, failure, and acceptance.
Once the film was finished, I designed the promotional materials, exhibition, and the presentation of the film as an installation- splitting the film into a triptych that spanned 36 feet wide and 12.5 feet tall. I wanted the vast moving imagery to engulf the viewer into the narrative. To place them into the scene and Lita’s Mythos. We spent a month in Venice for the fabrication and install, it was an absolutely spellbinding experience.
Liquid Light premiered at the 59th La Biennale di Venezia, Biennale Arte 2022 presented by bardoLA.
