Since 2019, I have worked closely with acclaimed artist Lita Albuquerque as Creative Director, Editor, Narrative Consultant, and Installation Designer, contributing to a broad range of projects that bridge performance, film, and immersive spatial experience.
Among our key collaborations is a short film developed from NAJMA (SHE PLACED ONE THOUSAND SUNS OVER THE TRANSPARENT OVERLAYS OF SPACE) (2020), a desert installation created for Desert X AlUla. I translated the raw documentation of this work into a film that captures its spiritual and astronomical resonance. Set in a secluded valley in AlUla, Saudi Arabia, the sculpture rests atop a boulder, encircled by a star map rendered in ultramarine blue pigment—reflecting the celestial alignment overhead on January 31, 2020.
This film forms part of a larger narrative continuum, including a performance on the Giza Plateau in Egypt. Based on Albuquerque’s writings, the piece centers on Najma, a 25th-century female astronaut who brings the language of light to Earth. As she walks across the desert and ultimately collapses in reverential grief, the performance echoes Albuquerque’s earlier work Sol Star, completed 25 years earlier on the opposite side of the plateau—a ritualistic return that bridges time, space, and myth.
My role has also involved conceptual and spatial design for a variety of Albuquerque’s major projects, including This Moment in Time (2024) at CalTech—a large-scale installation curated by Claudia Bohn-Spector for the Getty's PST ART initiative. For this work, I developed visual and narrative strategies that connect the use of gold leaf to stellar nucleosynthesis theory, reflecting CalTech’s legacy in astrophysical research.
Additionally, I designed an intimate, site-responsive installation at Arcosanti for Form Festival, utilizing the site’s iconic architecture to create a contemplative, cinematic viewing experience.
Over the years, I have become a trusted creative partner and close friend to this brilliant and visionary artist, contributing to the evolving dialogue between her work and the world.
